The University of Pennsylvania's Linguistic Data Consortium is seeking a Spanish-speaking Language Data Specialist - Senior to join our project data team. You will be responsible for analyzing and annotating Spanish language data including speech, text and video, as well as researching and documenting annotation task procedures. You will also assist with supervision of junior annotators including staff training and quality control. You will work on a range of unique projects, reporting to multiple managers, and offering support to a distributed team of remote annotators.
Primary Responsibilities
-Identify web data sources that meet project requirements and select individual data points (recordings, documents etc. ) that contain features of interest
-Perform linguistic annotation on (English, Spanish) speech, image, video and text data
-Document procedural approaches and examples/counter-examples for linguistic annotation tasks
-Augment existing English documentation/guidelines with equivalent or complementary Spanish content
-Research existing industry/academic approaches to solve specific linguistic annotation problems
-Perform broad analysis of annotation data to assist with ongoing project planning
-Review annotated data sets for quality and completeness, make corrections and identify patterns
-Train junior annotators and review their work products for quality and efficiency
-Monitor and report team progress against specified milestones and modify team tasking assignments to meet established goals
-Test user interfaces and other data software and assist in specification of new requirements
-Assist in preparation of data deliverables
-Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements
-Native fluency in Spanish
-Conversational fluency in English
-BA/BS or equivalent professional experience, preferably in a language-related field
-Minimum of 2 years working with language analysis (e.g. translation, editing, annotation, data processing)
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs
-Experience with command line interfaces is strongly preferred
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
-Excellent written and verbal communication
-Ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet fixed deadlines
-Ability to quickly adapt to changing project needs, with minimal direction
-Must be reliable, efficient, proactive, and self-motivated
The Language Data Specialist – Senior is a remote position and requires a regular weekly commitment of 15-25 hours.
