Position Summary: The Staff Accountant 1 provides support to accounting areas, including general ledger (GL) entries, monthly financial closings and financial reporting, and accounts payable/receivable. The incumbent also deals with vendors/tenants for various bookkeeping functions, employee expense review & approval, remittance of taxes, filing of tax returns, bank account, and GL account reconciliations in support of Technology Credit Union's (Tech CU) requirements for accurate and timely financial accounting information and account management.
Responsibilities: Essential Duties
- Completes the following account reconciliations and entries, accurately and according to schedule:
- The daily Federal Reserve Board (FRB) reconciliation by 10:00am PT daily;
- All cash bank accounts reconciliation by 12:00pm PT daily;
- Tech CU control accounts and suspense GLs reconciled daily and manager informed of any item of concern;
- Reviews GL Exceptions account every day and posts entries to resolve them;
- Posts all loan funding entries, Co-op income entries and wire transfer-related entries to ensure they balance;
- Reviews Ebox/Lockbox entries and Alacriti unposted/returned entries and prepares reconciliation for Central Operations to clear;
- GL reconciliations for critical GL accounts, as assigned, completed accurately and by the 5th business day of the following month; and,
- Month-end GL reconciliations completed accurately, as assigned, by the 15th of the following month.
- Posts all entries, purchases and sales, related to foreign currency and checks including income entries.
- Handles Accounts Receivable, including posting and follow-up.
- Oversees tenant rent collection process, including posting rental income proceeds, sending invoices and following up on payments.
- Reconciles member-related state and federal withholding taxes and remits to appropriate government agencies.
- Reviews employee expense reports to ensure relevant policies are adhered to and posts for payment.
- Completes and files the quarterly return of State Withholding, Form DE-9.
- Completes and files Annual Return of Withheld Federal Income Tax, Form 945.
- Provides timely and accurate administration of Tech CU's cash funds; ensures accurate cash projections and reconciles cash accounts.
- Ensures reimbursement of medical premiums, data plans and stipends to Board members.
- Reviews and alerts management of income and expense entries passed by non-Accounting personnel.
- Completes the posting of all approved journal vouchers before the end of the day.
- Prepares and posts several month-end closing journal entries, including allocations between Responsibility Centers (RCs).
- Prepares certain reports for adding to the Finance Committee packet on a monthly basis.
- Balances third party correspondent bank statements to Tech CU's accounts.
- Orders cash for new currency/coin, ATMs and branches. Works with Federal Reserve Board (FRB) and cash courier to resolve issues.
- Cross-trains on several functions with other team members to ensure coverage during absences/vacations.
- Reconciles cash and suspense outages.
- Maintains offsite records retention in storage.
- On behalf of the Accounting Department, assists other departments with research as requested.
- Supports Tech CU and Accounting Department with other tasks as assigned.
Work Schedule
- Full-time; typically 40 hours/week
8:30am-5:15pm, M-F, (or as directed by management)

Qualifications: Education: B.S. Degree in finance/accounting (or equivalent work experience).

- Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Excel. Working knowledge of other MS Office products.
- Ability to quickly learn core accounting system processes.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting services and operations, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, in a financial institution or credit union environment.
- Good ability to analyze data and perform research appropriate to assigned tasks.

This is a grade 5 position, with a salary range from $58,400 to $87,600 with bonus potential of 7%. The anticipated range for new hires is between the low-end and midpoint of the range, depending on experience. Tech CU is a pay-for performance organization that benchmarks base pay to the 50th percentile of our market and we provide incentive-based compensation aligned with successful accomplishment of individual and corporate goals. The salary mentioned above is based on working in San Jose, CA. Salaries are based on the geographic location in which you live if working remotely.
