The Analyst position offers a unique opportunity for a recent graduate to work with a senior corporate executive (Chairman of Elsevier, Director of Corporate Affairs for RELX Group) while undertaking tasks and responsibilities that provide wide exposure and deep insight into the information, data analytics and publishing industries.
The Analyst will report directly to the Senior Analysts and indirectly to the Chairman. The tasks of the Analyst are myriad and a successful candidate will display the ability to effectively manage communications and multi-task constantly on a global scale. The Analyst should always maintain the highest standards of service in working with all of RELX Group's and Elsevier's internal and external constituencies. Major responsibilities include:
- Authoring high impact speeches and presentation materials for the Chairman to deliver to key RELX Group/Elsevier partners and customers, including high-level government officials, business executives, and university leaders, as well as other stakeholders in the STM publishing and government affairs sectors, to build multilevel relationships
- Supporting the Chairman in his capacity as Professor of an MBA course
- Leading or supporting major strategic, policy-based, or business relationship projects on behalf of the Chairman, including delivering findings and recommendations to top management and stakeholders
Students will also work closely with the Senior Analysts to perform background research and preparation of briefing materials to support the Chairman in relationship-building meetings, conferences, customer visits and press interviews by:
- Researching and analyzing competitors in the scientific, technical and medical (STM) publishing and information industries;
- Tracking new publishing and media technology developments;
- Monitoring government policies that affect RELX Group's businesses at the national and international level;
- Assessing trends and changes in the university and academic research communities that could potentially alter publishing practices;
- Compiling profiles of key government officials, researchers, university administrators and other constituents in the global information communities;
- Gathering and distilling information on RELX Group/Elsevier's own product developments, key customers, and market communications;
- Producing corporate communications pieces for both internal and external use
We are looking for a hard-working and disciplined candidate who wants to undertake an extremely demanding and fast-paced opportunity to learn about the information industry and gain executive management skills. This position demands exceptional communication and responsiveness during all hours of the week, and frequently requires work to be done outside of normal business hours. From time to time, extended foreign travel is required (COVID-permitting). It also requires highly effective interpersonal skills to coordinate between different constituencies, and the ability to manage a wide range of tasks simultaneously. Foreign language skills are strongly preferred. The Analyst is expected hold this position for one year, followed by another year as Senior Analyst.
