The Academic and Admissions Advisor is responsible for advising/assisting students with admissions, transfer credits, degree plans and providing appropriate enrollment management services to prospective and current students to ensure their successful degree completion. Responsible for assisting the Director of Admissions-National Market with planning, developing, and executing a regional marketing plan. Essential Duties Summary Enrollment Services
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Admissions – National Market.and other UIU team members to increase UIU visibility. Actively recruits new students for the Center, Online and Self-Paced Programs. Determines eligibility for admission and advises students regarding admission status.
  • Immediately follows up on all leads with phone calls utilizing the University CRM, and follows up via email, phone call, or letter, with the mindset that all leads are good leads until the prospect specifically state they are no longer interested.
  • Advises prospective transfer students, using appropriate articulation worksheets.
  • Advises prospective students about financial aid availability, loan options, veterans and total military family benefits, company tuition reimbursement and other financial aid options.
  • Recruits at college fairs, military fairs, trade shows and other appropriate venues, promoting distance education and other university programs.
  • Evaluates undergraduate transcripts and prepares tentative degree plans as needed for prospective and current students. Works collaboratively with the Registrar's Office to ensure accurate representation of credits. Follows Upper Iowa University policies at all times regarding transfer credit, transcript acceptance, course substitutions, and other general advising issues.
  • Assists active learners with scheduling of classes and updates degree plans, as needed, informs learners of alternative means of receiving credit toward the degree (CLEP/DSST exams, portfolio method
  • Proactively identifies, advises and counsels students at risk of administrative withdrawal or course drops and stop-outs, ensuring that students are aware of the ramifications (e.g. financial aid, progress towards degree, etc.).
  • Actively pursues enrollment management efforts to re-enroll stop out learners according to established retention plan.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all UIU course modalities and procedures in order to explain all learning models to current and potential enrolled students.

Quality Educational Services
  • Provides the range of enrollment services including admissions, advising, financial aid assistance (including grants, loans, Veterans benefits, tuition assistance, etc.) and appropriate tracking for both prospective and currently enrolled students.
  • Evaluates transcripts from other institutions; military experience and training; technical, vocational and organizational training; and other American Council on Education (ACE) guidelines. Advises students on selecting a major and the practicality of pursuing dual majors or minors.
  • Ensures that University policies are followed by having a thorough knowledge of all policies and procedures outlined in the Handbook for Administration and Staff, and current edition of the Academic Catalog.

Customer Service
  • Provides superior customer service to internal and external audiences
  • Professionally represents Upper Iowa University to internal and external customers, including students, prospective students, companies, organizations, faculty, and UIU centers and locations.
  • Provides prompt responses to email, voice, and other mail to ensure timely follow up and outstanding service to all customers.

Collaboration
  • Actively collaborates with all university teams with regard to student retention and enrollment issues.
  • Assists as necessary the marketing efforts of the University including presentations at informational meetings, college fairs, employer visits and other appropriate venues.
  • Works collaboratively with the other teams in the Extended University as well as the campus support offices (Student Enrollment Center, Business Office, and Financial Aid Office) to assist learners.
  • Coordinates or provides assistance with planning recruiting events.
  • Reflects a positive, collegial attitude when representing Enrollment Management and UIU as a whole to the general public, campus offices, faculty, students and staff.
  • Serves on University committees as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Outstanding people skills and knowledge of educational institutions.

  • Appropriate computer skills.
  • Willingness to travel to support the University.
  • Ability to work flexible work schedules including some evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications Master's degree preferred Physical Demands 1. Sit at desk for long periods of time.
2. Work with personal computer, keyboard and mouse for long periods of time.
3. Standing, reaching, and bending to access files.
4. Walk across campus, ascend and descend stairs to attend meetings.
5. Lift up to 30 pounds delivering materials, moving boxes of forms, etc.
